Summary:
The Fixture designer utilizes engineering principles, knowledge, and related experience to create, design, and layout custom fixtures for various operations within the organization.
Essential Duties/
Responsibilities:
o Create, design and layout all custom fixtures, test and inspection equipment, and assembly devices.
o Conceptualize and generate designs, detailed drawings, and models using Solidworks software.
o Create necessary technical manuals.
o Size and specify mechanical equipment such as hydraulic and pneumatic clamps, pumps, and related components necessary for fixture design.
o Provide internal and external customer support.
o Perform all parts of the fixture design process including material selection, creating and reviewing part specifications, identifying fabrication methods and critical dimensions, and producing bills of sales.
o Perform tolerance stack-ups and limited structural FEA.
o Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.
g.
supply chain and procurement) and external vendors/suppliers with minimal guidance from engineers to ensure designs are feasible.
Create and submit purchase requisitions and obtain quotes to support project schedules.
o Inspect outsourced components and assemble and evaluate fixtures and prototypes.
o Work independently to create manual fixtures and collaborate with engineers to create complex, semi-automated and automated test fixtures, and manufacturing fixtures, based on requirements.
o Participate in new product development and design for manufacturing (DFM) meetings to assist in the development of fixtures and processes.
o Input fixture request data into Smartsheet software, working based on priority and maintaining the Smartsheet database.
o Collaborates with others, is open minded, responsive, and supportive of others efforts to succeed.
o Demonstrates integrity by being reliable, dependable, having good judgement, being honest, and taking responsibility for their actions.
o Respectful of others, encouraging others to share their ideas, actively listening to others and having common courtesy.
o Other duties as assigned.
o Degree in Mechanical Engineering or eight years of related experience is required.
o Ability to effectively communicate in English, both written and verbal.
o Ability to read and understand trade publications and texts is required.
o Mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and geometry are required.
o Exceptional mechanical insight and ability is required.
o Solidworks Associate certification is strongly preferred.
o Ability to efficiently use Microsoft Office and Solidworks is required.
o Experience using Smartsheet is a plus.
o The work environment is primarily in an office environment but will require time on the manufacturing floor with varying noise levels depending on where the work is being performed.
o The ability to efficiently and effectively operate a computer for extended periods of time throughout the workday is required.
o The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
